Spring is a wonderful opportunity to explore the county and all its charm as well as getting involved in some great Easter experiences.

Whatever you’re looking for, Cornwall can offer you a peaceful or fun-filled Easter holiday, so we’ve rounded up a list of reasons why our lovely county should be your next family staycation destination.

Good weather

Cornish weather tends to be a a selling point for visitors, especially during April when it’s slightly warmer than other areas of the UK. With average highs of 13ºC and lows of 6ºC, the mild springtime weather is ideal for those seeking a location to enjoy outdoor activities over the holidays. The warmer weather combined with fairly frequent sunshine provides an ideal opportunity to enjoy time outside, even if it’s just to admire Cornwall’s picturesque natural landscapes and spend time with your friends and family.

Beautiful beaches

With the warmer weather comes thoughts of visiting the beach, and at this point in the year they are much less crowded than the height of summer. Luckily, Cornwall has many beautiful sandy bays to visit, especially during the Easter holidays when the sea temperature isn’t so spine-chilling anymore and the thought of a paddle in the sea becomes more appealing.

Feeling adventurous? At Watergate Bay, April kick starts their busy calendar of events for water sports such as swimming, kite surfing, paddle boarding and beach volleyball.

Cornwall in bloom

Easter coincides with the height of Spring, and this is the time when Cornwalls’ beautiful gardens come into bloom. This makes it an excellent time to visit the county’s gardens or stroll through wildflower meadows and shady woodlands to see an array of daffodils, primroses and bluebells painting the county.

For those who are horticulturally minded, the fantastic annual Spring Flower Show at Royal Cornwall Showground (this year happening on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April) allows you to enjoy the displays of flowers and shrubs, exquisite exhibits by leading nurseries and landscape designers, and a spectacular spread of horticultural traders.

Easter Events

Cornwall has a variety of great events throughout the year, and Easter is no exception. Whether you want to enjoy some music at the St Endellion Easter Festival, go on an egg hunt at Lanhydrock, learn about the colourful, spring flowers at The Eden Project or try some traditional ‘egg rolling’ in Padstow, there’s loads of Easter events in Cornwall that everyone can enjoy.

Great attractions

There’s also a variety of other things to do to add to your itinerary if you’re planning a visit; there are some attractions that close for the winter period, or operate within limited hours, but these all start to open or extend their hours during the spring. Plus, with the weather generally being good, the possibilities for activities outside start to expand.

On a sunny day you can enjoy a cycle or stroll along the Camel trail, take a trip to Newquay Zoo and to discover the animals up close, or take a train ride at Bodmin and Wenford Railway. History and culture lovers will enjoy immersing themselves in the history of Tintagel Castle, or watching a performance at The Minack Theatre with a view of the Atlantic Ocean, Porthcurno Bay, and the Logan Rock.

Food and Drink

Cornwall’s food and drink scene offers an abundance of different and unique options, and spring is a particularly good time for eating and drinking in the county. Fresh, seasonal ingredients start to flourish, including asparagus, wild garlic, and Cornish new potatoes, and it’s a popular time for food festivals too.

You will find that Cornwall produces some of the richest fresh produce from land and sea in the UK, and with that comes a mix of heritage and flair that makes up Cornwall’s proud culinary scene. From classic pub grub, to fresh-from-the-harbour seafood, to traditional Cornish Cream Teas or the Cornish pasty, you really are spoilt for choice.

Dog-Friendly

Cornwall is an excellent location for a holiday with your dog – they are part of the family after all – at any time of year. However, since muddy paws season is mostly done by the time spring rolls around, Easter is a particularly good time to bring them with you. Across the whole county, there’s a variety of dog-friendly Cornish beaches, locations and attractions, including gardens and farm parks, so your dog can join in on all the fun and enjoy Cornwall to its full potential.
